September 30, 2020

Dear CS 200 Family,

Thank you all for your continued support of our students throughout this process and for your participation in Town Hall meetings for the reopening of school year 2020 – 2021.  The New York City Department of Education has been working diligently to provide our students, faculty, and staff a safe workplace to return to.

I would like to thank you for your patience and flexibility as we share this just released update on our students’ arrival and dismissal time for school year 2020 – 2021. Please keep in mind that protocols and structures may be changed if we receive updated guidelines and/or there is a need for modifications.

CS 200 will be open for students on their designated cohort day at 8:30 a.m. each morning.  Supervision of students will not be provided before this time.  Students arriving to school before 8:30 a.m. must wait outside with their parent/guardian. Please have your children arrive at school no earlier than 8:30 a.m. Please anticipate that there may be delays during the first day of school as students are organized into their assigned classes. Only students will be allowed to enter the building and campus. Please ensure children have on masks and complete the screening, including temperature, prior to arrival. Students that want breakfast will pick up/be given a grab and go breakfast bag and eat their breakfast in the classroom.

We are working hard to assign students to Cohorts, we will inform parents via phone and/or email assigned Cohorts and designated days. Preference will be given to siblings only. Siblings will be placed in the same cohort to support families for scheduling purposes.

To assist with transparency about designated cohort days the following supports will be in place:

  • Schedules will be posted
  • Each cohort will be assigned a color Group A: Red, Group B: Blue
  • Colored ID Cards will be given first days of school to each cohort to assist with ease at arrivals.

Arrival Procedures:

To ensure social distancing and safety precautions, arrival procedures for the 2020-2021 will be as followed:

Prek 3 and 4 – Will receive staggered arrival times via email prior to school opening for the first two days of school.  Pre K 3 and 4 will enter through their classroom door via the Pre K yard on 149th Street and 7th avenue. (Black Gate near #3 train station.)

Kgn.-5th Grade – Students will enter the Main Entrance of the school building. Students will enter single file maintaining 6ft. social distance.  Stairs will be marked with tape to indicate where students should stand.  Teachers will meet students on the school yard. Parents will drop off their child/children at the bottom of the stairs.

The instructional day at CS 200 ends at 2:00 p.m. All students will be dismissed by grade beginning at 1:50 p.m. via announcement.  The safe orderly dismissal of the students is top priority at our school.

Walkers/Bus Students

Students taking buses will line up under the terrace at 1:55 PM. (Main Entrance under the Terrace) until their bus arrives.

Walkers will leave the building first at 2:00 PM Main Stairs on 150th and 7th Avenue in single file maintaining 6 ft. social distancing.

In inclement weather, students will be in the playroom: 2nd and 3rd grade, Terrace: 4th and 5th grade, and Auditorium: Kindergarten and 1st grades.  Staff members will be posted to relay the child being picked up at the gate to staff inside and the student will be sent to meet the parent at the bottom of the stairs on 150th street and 7th avenue.

Arrival and dismissal times at the CS 200 are busy times.  We are asking for your help to ensure that all of our students arrive safely at school in the morning and at home in the afternoon.  We ask that parents arrive promptly to pick up students at their designated times as we have limited space and staff to supervise students and meet the social distancing requirements.

Once again, your assistance and cooperation is greatly appreciated as we work together to ensure the safety of CS 200.  We recognize that arrival and dismissal times may be crucial times to handle school business (i.e., office visits, nurse visits, lost and found, etc.).  We ask that parents avoid asking to go into the building during these times as all staff will be occupied with the safe entry and dismissal of students.

We ask for your patience, flexibility, courtesy and willingness to work with the school to assist us in a well-organized and safe arrivals/dismissals.  Please contact Mr. Garry Fields, Parent Coordinator, at gfields3@schools.nyc.gov if you any questions or concerns regarding this update.

Sincerely,

Renée Y. Belton

Principal CS 200
